January is Get Organized Month!

In 2005, NAPO (National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals) declared January as Get Organized Month. In 1991, NAPO first celebrated Get Organized Week, as a way to help individuals as well as businesses get motivated to get their spaces in order.

After the chaos of the holiday season, and to fight off winter doldrums, the beginning of the year is the perfect time to get started.

Did you know that getting organized can help in many ways? It reduces stress (just looking at a mess can cause anxiety), it saves you money because you will not be constantly rebuying things that you previously could not find, and you will also save time by knowing where everything is.

Here are some things that you may have in your house that you can quickly get rid of to make space, and they are likely lurking in various parts of your home. Some things that come to mind

  • Manuals  and/or power cords from electronics and kitchen items that you either no longer have or are broken beyond repair. Same goes for tools in the garage.

  • Expired food, makeup

  •      Takeout  menus and plastic food containers

  • Dry cleaner hangers (they will gladly take them back)

  • Pens and markers that no longer work

  • Reusable grocery bags.  We all have too many, and your  local food pantry can use them.

Life can be a lot easier when you have a clutter-free space. I’m hoping you can all take advantage of this month (and all year) as a time to get organized! And, Joyfully Neat can always help you get started.
