It's Spring Cleaning Time!
Spring has sprung, and it's time to tackle the household tasks that often get overlooked. After spending the winter indoors, you may be surrounded by clutter and disorganization. Now is the perfect time to start fresh and declutter your space. Whether you're preparing to sell your home or just want to make your space more manageable, these Spring tips will help you get started.
First, let's head outside. Pick a warm and sunny day to tackle the less enjoyable tasks (at least you're outside in pleasant weather). Power wash or hose down your outdoor furniture, patio, deck, brick pavers, and fixtures. Ensure your grill is in top condition by cleaning it and checking for any parts that need to be replaced, as well as your propane supply. Remember to check your outdoor light fixtures and electrical connections, too!
Let's shift our focus to the garage. During winter, garages usually get cluttered and become dumping grounds for unwanted items like boxes from purchases, leftovers from indoor projects, and other miscellaneous things. To begin with, figure out what you require and use. You can quickly and easily find what you need by organizing and decluttering your garage. Remember, only buy storage solutions such as bins or shelving once you have decided what needs to be kept.
In the kitchen, discard expired food in your cabinets and pantry. If you have items that you don't use but are not expired, you can donate them to a food pantry. Clean your refrigerator thoroughly by scrubbing every surface, pulling out the drawers and bins, and washing them. Clean behind the fridge, too, and dust the coils. Defrost the freezer if necessary. Clean your oven (or remember to use the self-clean feature). Clean the cabinet doors, especially by the handles.
In the bathroom, dispose of expired medicines and toiletries. Cross out your name and personal information on bottles and dispose of everything properly. Most towns have collection bins for medication you no longer need. Take note of any supplies and over-the-counter medications you might be running low on and restock. Deep clean and consider refreshing the grout. Wash shower curtains and liners. Throw out old towels, or better yet, donate them to your local animal shelter. Wash bath mats if done sparingly.
Clean out your file cabinets in the home office. Remember to shred documents with personal information, and check if your municipality has free paper shred days. Also, clean out your electronic files, computer, and the physical surfaces of the computer and desk. Donate any unneeded office supplies, and then organize what you want to keep.
In your bedroom(s), flip the mattresses and wash the blankets and pillows. Organize your sheets and get rid of any that are worn or unused. You can also donate them to your local animal shelter.
Following these Spring cleaning tips will make your home look its best in no time. What are you waiting for? Let's get cleaning and organizing! And remember, Joyfully Neat is always available to help!
