Fall Organizing

When I  was young, Fall meant back to school, which meant new clothes. I couldn’t wait to wear my new items, even if it was a sweater or something that might be better saved for colder temperatures. No matter what the Fall may signify for you, the change of season is always an excellent time to organize your home for the next few months of the year.  The holiday season will be here before we know it, and it’s great to be prepared.  Here are some tips/ideas for a well-organized fall!

       Closet Transition

1. Bedroom  - Not everyone has room for all four seasons of clothing in their closet.  If you store out-of-season clothing elsewhere, when the weather starts to turn is the right time to add your fall/winter wardrobe.  And then, you can take the lightweight things and put them into storage (ideally using the same storage area/bins). This is also an excellent time to assess what you no longer wear and donate it.

  1.  Hall/Coat -  This can sometimes become a “catchall” for household items and can get disorganized. It is understandable if you need to store more than coats and shoes in your closet. If the space is multi-purpose, bins and baskets are very helpful to keep things organized. Again, this is the perfect time to weed out unused and unwanted items.

  1. Linen - Same principle.  Discard old sheets, blankets, and towels.  Your local animal shelter can use and will be happy to receive these things.

    Outdoor

Wash and cover outdoor furniture, or bring it inside if that’s where you store it. Bring in any hoses (and cover outdoor faucets), planters, or things that might not do well being left out in the winter.  It’s also the perfect time to look at your home’s outdoor lighting to see if anything needs to be repaired or replaced.

    Seasonal/Holiday

Assess your holiday decorations/supplies.  If you like to decorate for Halloween, take stock of what you have and might need. Thanksgiving and the December holidays are right around the corner, so check your gift-wrapping supplies and any entertaining items besides the aforementioned decorations.

I hope this provided helpful information to motivate you to get and stay organized. If you need some help, Joyfully Neat is always here! I look forward to the coming season and all the fun activities, and I hope you do, too!
